Enrichment
The Small Christian Communities of the Center of Jesus the Lord started to form in January of 2010 under the guidance
of Rev. Lance Campo who was Director of the Center at that time. Father Campo organized a Start-Up Team of about 7
people for this evangelization ministry. The team met for several months to organize this undertaking. The team drew
up a Charter which developed a plan to implement and guide the Small Christian Communities. Plans for leadership,
structure, study materials and format of the meetings were also drawn up. The purpose of the communities is to
evangelize, grow in prayer, deepen relationships with Christ, educate morality and build community. Leaders of the
groups were sought and evaluated and then invited to attend Leadership Training for 4 weeks.
In October 2010, our First Kickoff meeting was held. Thirty-five people attended that gathering. We placed the persons
interested in being a part of the small communities, or cell groups, depending on the area where they lived and started
our study with 7 groups. Currently, we have 8 groups in the surrounding areas and many of the persons who began
with this undertaking 7 years ago are still part of this ministry.
We have studied books of the Bible (Old and New Testament) History of the Catholic Church, Sacraments of the Church,
the Saints, Mary the Mother of God, The Apostles and parts of the Catholic Mass. The presenters of the studies are well
known Biblical Scholars such as Jeff Cavins, Bishop Robert Barron, Scott Hahn and just recently Lavinia Spiritio. The
meeting begins with prayer, then the group watches a DVD by the presenter, is asked to do a homework assignment
covering the presentation, an ending prayer with any requests is offered. The meeting ends with fellowship. The
following week the assignment is discussed by the group and then the next DVD lesson is viewed. The weekly meetings
last about 1 and ½ hour.
